Relaxing at Menindee Lakes:

ree

We decided to take a side trip out to the Menindee Lakes on our way to Broken Hill, which was relaxing and very enjoyable - the lakes ran dangerously low a few years ago and lost a large number of fish from suffocating high levels of algae - which made headline everywhere.

Only 2 of the 5 Menindee Lakes contained water when we visited, but the trip was well worth the very corrigated road trip in from Pooncarie to Menindee ... the journey was quite literally enough to shake all your teeth fillings loose - but the Menindee Shire recieved a big grant from the NSW Government following the death of so many fish & the money is currently being used to upgrade the road from the south - so hopefully the jaw altering road journey won't be an issue for much longer.

We stopped for a day & a half to relax on the side of the lake - I enjoyed photographing the lake ... so I will just let the pictures tell the story here;
